Made with vines that are nearly 90 years old, the purity and confidence of the fruit are stunning.The freshly pressed cranberries on the nose are accentuated by lush, bright pomegranate. As always with the wines of Federico Stella, the tannins are very soft and integrated, always granular and unimposing: a blissful wine with poached Salmon.

The tasting will include light appetizers.

TASTING: Travel Through the South of France

We will be tasting wines from the Languedoc, Rhone Valley and Provence. Tony with Galaxy Wines will be offering tastes including the grapes Viognier, Marsanne, Rousanne, Bourboulenc, Grenache Blanc, Syrah, Cinsault, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. Great for the dog days of summer ahead you will be sure to find more than one to sip your way to autumn. One that might surely make your list is from Pennautier which is very close to the medieval village of Carcassonne. Pennautier is a winery with strong ties to Louis XIII. Citrus, pear and fennel with minerality from limestone soils, it has a luxurious and silky mouth-feel. A real winner!

The tasting will include light appetizers. The $15 fee can be collected when you arrive. It's fine to arrive after 6:00 but probably no later than 7:00 to properly taste all the wines as the event ends at 8:00. TASTING BORDEAUX

Chateau Haut Rian is located southeast (18 miles) of the city of Bordeaux in the tiny village of Rions . 

The property is eighty hectares, encompassing parts of the Premieres Cotes de Bordeaux and Entre-Deux-Mers, bordering the village of Cadillac and near the Garonne River, "where the vines can see the water but won't get their feet wet". The climate here is warmer than maritime Medoc but also drier. All of the vineyards are on gentle slopes facing South and Southeast, the topsoil consists of loose pebbles over limestone.

Their repertoire includes popular tunes in the style of chanson française, bal-musette, love songs circa 1940-1970 as well as original compositions. ANDREW OLIVER

Andrew Oliver is a pianist and composer from Portland, Oregon. He also plays cello, trumpet, and drums. He grew up playing classical piano and cello, and eventually switched to jazz at the beginning of high school, when he began taking lessons from Randy Porter, his most influential teacher. He lived in New Orleans from 2002 until 2005, where he studied jazz at Loyola University and performed as both a bandleader and sideman. After evacuating from Hurricaine Katrina in the summer of 2005, he returned to Portland and resumed his studies at Portland State University, where graduated in June 2007 with a B.M. in Jazz Performance and a B.A. in French.He is currently active in several groups: he leads a sextet playing his original compositions and arrangements as well as writing for and co-directing the Portland Jazz Composers' Ensemble, a big band promoting new music by Portland's jazz composers.He is a member of Devin Phillips' group New Orleans Straight Ahead, which released its first album in 2006, and with which he recently toured West and Central Africa performing and teaching workshops in the fall of 2007 as a cultural ambassador under the auspices of the State Department and Jazz at Lincoln Center.

FLAMENCO DANCE AND MUSIC

Flamenco is a Spanish term that refers both to a musical genre, known for its intricate rapid passages, and a dance genre characterized by its audible footwork. The origins of the term are unclear as the word also means Flemish or flamingo. The word Flamenco, which applies to the song, the dance and the guitar, did not come into use until the 19th century.
Flamenco embodies a complex musical and cultural tradition. Although considered part of the culture of Spain in general, flamenco actually originates from one region: Andalusia. However, other areas, mainly Extremadura and Murcia, have contributed to the development of several flamenco musical forms, and a great number of renowned flamenco artists have been born in other territories of the state. It is generally acknowledged that flamenco grew out of the unique interplay of native Arabic, Andalusian, Sephardic, and Gypsy cultures that existed in Andalusia prior to and after the Reconquest. Latin American and especially Cuban influences have also been important in shaping several flamenco musical forms. Flamenco is played with a flamenco guitar.
Once the seeds of flamenco were planted in Andalusia, it grew as a separate subculture, first centered in the provinces of Seville, Cádiz and part of Málaga-the area known as Baja Andalucía (Lower Andalusia)-but soon spreading to the rest of Andalusia, incorporating and transforming local folk music forms. As the popularity of flamenco extended to other areas, other local Spanish musical traditions (e.g. the Castilian traditional music) would also influence, and be influenced by, the traditional flamenco styles.

The duo Wadhams & Huston present a diverse repertoire of melodic songs. They blend the best acoustic music of James Taylor, Van Morrison, The Beatles, Bob Dylan and others with contemporary favorites. Bill is also the leader singer of Animotion, a band that had a world-wide hit with "Obsession" in 1985. Since then he has continued to write and record in Portland, often scoring music for tv commercials and films. The two singers met when Bill was scoring a documentary film that Brian was directing in 2002.

NINA AND LARRY

Nina and Larry have been performing together for over six years playing for private parties, business functions, weddings, benefits, concerts and recordings. Their repertoire of jazz, Latin and show tunes covers the 1930s through the present with Nina's energetic vocal styling accompanied by Larry's 7-String guitar. Both are very seasoned musicians and have performed with many jazz greats. In 2004 they recorded their first CD, Lush Life, a collection of 14 songs including ballads, swing and samba. A student of Judy Davis and Phil Mattson, Nina has toured Europe as lead vocalist in the Blue Saints Jazz Band and has performed with Bennett Friedman, Cal Tjader, Louis Bellson and Woody Hite. She also performed throughout the U.S.

For the past few years Pamela Jordan has carved out a niche for herself as a jazz chanteuse playing clubs and coffee houses – and working as the featured vocalist for the Woody Hite and Dr. T. Big Band Orchestras.
Jordan was selected from more than 700 contestants as a finalist for the 1999 Lilith Fair Opening Act Contest. She also won the Portland Songwriters Association National Songwriting Contest’s pop category for her song The Fall of Love.
Her first CD, Standard Procedure garnered critical acclaim for Jordan’s rich, warm sound and masterful interpretation of jazz standards.
