ZEPHYR

Zéphyr (zay-feer), formerly known as Tourbillon, features the vocal talents of Lisa Grimm, local French teacher and francophile. Along with the talented Thomas Niebrzydowski on guitar, Jesse Engum on bass, and Joe Root on accordion & keyboards.Zéphyr specializes in uniquely French cabaret & jazz music. Their repertoire includes popular tunes in the style of chanson française, bal-musette, love songs circa 1940-1970 as well as original compositions. Recall the sounds of Edith Piaf, Serge Gainsbourg, Françoise Hardy, Brigitte Bardot, among others. Imagine a summer beach vacation and then having to leave it-au revoir-for the rainy streets of Paris.Remember the little neighborhood we used to know,in Saint-Germain des Près, and how it will never be the same without you, or the ghost of lovers dancing, with light and love in their eyes. Or how about that driving tune that you just can’t get out of your head? Padam! It obsesses you, reminding you of all things forgotten. Do dead loves ever finish dying? How about dancing the Javanaise, as we love each other for the time of a song? L’amour. La danse. La musique.Each song tells a story, and Zéphyr creates a loungy sway, a decadent, relaxing soundlandscape incorporating gypsy, swing and bossa nova influences into their guitar-bassaccordian- piano-flute and French vocal combination.

This unusual comedy catches its characters at various moments of loneliness, identity crisis and despair. NW JAZZ PROJECT

The NW Jazz Project was co-founded by Dave Coniglio and Tim Malone. Our intentions are to provide quality Jazz with a flexible band that could meet all budgets. We both toured the East Coast individually with different jazz bands, eventually making our way to Portland. We met through a mutual alumni and friend, quickly realizing our mutual ideals in regards to music, performance, and business. We then launched the NW Jazz Project.

The Portland based Jazz Modé Trio brings together the musical talents of three consummate jazz craftsmen in a harmonious blend of energy, rhythm and groove. Fed up with city life, Sandrine (Mathilde Seigner) decides to leave Paris and live out her dream of becoming a farmer. It's love at first sight when she comes across a farmstead on the Vercors plateau, which she takes over from the cantankerous farming veteran Adrien (Michel Serrault). Sandrine is as confident she can run the farm by herself as Adrien is skeptical; the trials of the oncoming winter will prove them both wrong.

I'm a professional bass player working in the beautiful Pacific Northwest and based in Portland OR. I've been playing for 20+ years and am currently gigging with a 10 piece soul band called Soul Vaccination . We play Tower of Power, Earth Wind and Fire, Chaka Khan, Aretha, Stevie Wonder and any other funky tunes from the olden days that groove and have horns. We currently have the hottest soul singer in the NW in the front -- Miss Gigi. Don't miss her! I also have an original project called Voodoo BBQ. We play zydefunk -- a cool mix of zydeco, funk, blues and rock and roll. Please check out Voodoo BBQ's CD, "Rub Some Funk On 'Dat." It's really good, if I do say so myself.
