Claude Lelouch (A Man and a Woman) directs a sweeping epic that chronicles three generations (from pre-World War I Europe to the 1960s) of people whose lives revolve around music. James Caan leads an all-star cast that includes Geraldine Chaplin, Fanny Ardant, Alexandra Stewart and Sharon Stone (in an early role). Michel Legrand and Francis Lai collaborated on the score that includes classical contributions by Ravel, Beethoven, Liszt and others.
